Curriculum

The elementary art program gives a structured opportunity for the students to develop their skills, confidence, and joy in creating works of art. Students develop their decision-making and problem-solving skills as they manipulate different media used in creating visual works of art. The art program gives the opportunity to study God as the Creator and His creation as inspiration to our student artists.

The primary focus of the Bible course is the application of biblical truths in the lives of students. Our goal is that students will develop a growing, maturing, personal relationship with God, and that they will demonstrate discernment in life choices through a biblical worldview. Students are also involved in weekly chapel services.

Students are introduced to basic concepts of language using a building block approach throughout their elementary years. These language arts concepts include grammar, composition, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.

The primary objectives of math will be introduced, reviewed, and mastered sequentially as students develop mentally and cognitively. Our goal is for students to obtain grade-appropriate mastery of each mathematical principle.

The study of music at FRCS exists to guide students to develop their musical abilities and talents to honor and worship our Lord Jesus Christ. Students are exposed to music history, theory, performance techniques, and praise and worship.

Our goal is to develop a lifelong habit of physical activity by teaching skills related to endurance, flexibility, motor skills, and fundamental skills related to games and sports. Teamwork, appreciation of the gifts of others, and sportsmanship are all key in developing a sense of one body working toward a common goal.

Through the teaching of reading skills, reasoning, vocabulary, comprehension, and fluency, students become independent readers. By exposure to different genres and authors, students are introduced to other cultures and acquire an appreciation of literature. Students are taught how to effectively read and evaluate non-fiction materials for information and content. They are also taught to sift all knowledge through the filter of God’s Word.

As Creator, God’s fingerprints are seen in every facet of scientific study. To attempt to teach science apart from the recognition of God’s handiwork would be to miss the truth. Students of science will develop an understanding of their responsibility as stewards of the earth.

An understanding of how God has worked in the lives of all people through the ages is critical to a student’s ability to actively engage society. Kindergarten through 4th grade social studies focuses on the role of community and builds to an understanding of “state” within U.S. regions. Fifth grade focuses on U.S. history, while 6th grade introduces students to the world beyond their own country.
