Culinary Arts Center

The Educational Importance of the Culinary Arts

At FRCS, we believe that the culinary arts can be an important part of a well-rounded education. Not only does it help prepare students for life, it can expand the mind with exposure to different cultures, provide opportunities for the practical application of math and the sciences, and engage students’ senses while they learn.

The Culinary Arts Center at Front Range Christian School is a cooking lab that opens tasty opportunities for students to learn the art of cooking. From food preparation skills to knowledge of ingredients, global cuisine, food service operations, and more, the hands-on electives and extracurricular classes offered in the Culinary Arts Center are just another aspect of the discipleship-based, Christian liberal arts education at FRCS.

Educational opportunities in the Culinary Arts Center are available to students grades 1-12 at FRCS. Elective classes are available to senior high students each year, and J-Term or DEEP classes are often available to junior/senior high and elementary students.

Campus Specific Information

Elementary

Elementary students are provided opportunities to learn in the Culinary Arts Center during certain DEEP classes. They are taught safety in the kitchen along with basic cooking skills, including:

  • how to read a recipe
  • how to measure ingredients
  • learning your way around the kitchen
  • and more!

Junior High

Junior high students at FRCS (grades 7-8) have the opportunity to take J-Term classes in the Culinary Arts Center when they are available.

Senior High

Senior high students at FRCS (grades 9-12) may take J-Term classes in the Culinary Arts Center when they are available. They are also afforded the opportunity to take a year-long elective course in the Culinary Arts Center. During the elective, students learn about:

  • food safety
  • knife skills
  • how to read a recipe
  • proper use of equipment
  • ingredient appreciation
  • basic baking (cookies, brownies, biscuits, muffins, pancakes)
  • holiday cooking
  • advanced baking (pastries, bread, cake)
  • global cuisines
  • food operations
  • careers in culinary arts
  • menu planning and creation
  • and more!
