Why Work for FRCS?

“I have worked/taught at many other places, and FRCS has offered me a place to truly call home.” ~ an FRCS Teacher

While it can be incredibly rewarding, teaching is a demanding profession. Most who dream of being a teacher when they are younger are drawn to the idea of shaping minds and unlocking potential — what could be a greater reward than changing the life of a student? But the reality, at least for most teachers, is far different from those early dreams. The reality includes enormous amounts of stress with spatterings of feeling undervalued and underappreciated.

A recent study published by Pew Research Center shows that overall, 56% of teachers find their job to be fulfilling, but 77% report that their job is frequently stressful and 68% that it is overwhelming to be a teacher. And in a separate study, nearly 1 in 5 teachers report feeling disrespected, undervalued, and not trusted by society and parents.

We believe that working for Front Range Christian School is different. But don’t just take our word for it. We conducted a survey of our teachers, and the results back our claims. Roughly 96% of FRCS teachers find their job fulfilling or very fulfilling. And feeling support from administration, teammates, and parents is equally high, with 91% feeling supported or very supported by their principal and other administrators, 100% feeling supported or very supported by teammates, and 91% reporting feeling supported or very supported by parents and the FRCS community.

Wouldn’t you like to work for a school where your chances of feeling fulfilled in your work and supported by those around you are that high?

Following are other interesting and encouraging things we learned from this survey.

Return to job openings

Most of our teachers are in it for the long haul

  • 44% of our teachers have taught at FRCS for 5 years or more (with over 26% teaching 10 or more years!)
  • 26% of our teachers have taught for 2-5 years
  • 30% for 2 years or less (and most of these have either replaced teachers who retired or filled new positions as the school continues to grow)

A majority of our teachers (65%) taught somewhere else before coming to FRCS. Here’s what a few had to say about the differences in working at other schools versus FRCS.

  • Before FRCS, I worked in the public school community as a regular substitute teacher. I wasn’t able to share my hope/faith found in Jesus and the culture of collaboration and community was different because of it. Even instructing students was different because I couldn’t point them to Him.

  • I worked at a Charter School. The biggest difference between there and FRCS is the way God is the first and foremost part of conversation with our students, parents and staff here at FRCS. We actually had the opportunity to pray before school (with teachers) at the Charter School, but we were unable to pray with kids before the day began, when we were going through a difficult time, before parent/teacher conferences, before meals, before faculty meetings, or just because.

  • Front Range is way healthier [than the last school where I taught]. They care about their teachers and support them. My last school was a private, Christian school.

  • I worked at a DPS school before Front Range. That school was hard because the class sizes were 30 kids, and they taught on issues I didn’t believe in, like sexuality. I love the class sizes of FRCS because I am able to cater to the students’ individual needs and meet in small groups. I am also able to teach what I believe and help students gain a better view of the world God created.

We asked teachers about how safe they feel on FRCS’s campus, knowing that safety at school is on the forefront of everyone’s mind each time there is a school shooting. All of our teachers report feeling either safe (35%) or very safe (65%) on our campus. One teacher summed it up well.

  • Every day I show up at FRCS, I walk through our hallways confidently because of the safety measures that have been implemented to help protect myself and the students I teach. Security and safety issues are taken seriously by all and are continually analyzed and revisited to help ensure the best practices are being used. I love that we are trained and equipped in all the practical ways that help support our roles in the classroom and that we intentionally spend time in prayer and seeing to trust the Lord through it all.

In addition to feeling supported, we want our staff to feel camaraderie at FRCS. Collaboration at all levels is important to our school — especially amongst our teachers.

  • FRCS is such a special place because we intentionally spend time together, building community and praying for one another. Our day to day lives are intertwined in such a beautiful and authentic way that fosters the best Christian community.

  • In the years that I have been at FR, the camaraderie is at its absolute best in the Jr/St high side. The mutual respect, drive to know and understand each other’s classes, the movement to be in and a part of each other’s work, it feels as if we move and work together even across curriculum. There is no need to be an island here.

  • While friends can be found in many walks of life, spending so many hours together each week forges healthy relationships and life-long bonds. At FRCS, colleagues share joys and sorrows, challenges and victories, and together identify ways to help the students reach their full God-given potential.

When asked about fulfillment at FRCS and support from Administration, teammates, parents, and the community, here’s what a handful of our teachers said:

  • Most of the parents are very responsive when you tell them about an issue that a student is having. If it is behavioral, they take steps to change it, and if it is academic, they take steps to get their child extra help.

  • Parents are very encouraging and let you know you are appreciated. They are very kind and giving and make you feel supported with amazing help behind the scenes to allow me to achieve my goals in the classroom and in extracurricular activities.

  • I have never experienced the level of support that I get from everyone at this school.

  • I have worked/taught at many other places and FRCS has offered me a place to truly call home. While the other places I’ve worked were still meaningful, there’s something special about being able to walk out your faith among other believers and lead students in the same way. All that we do is founded in our common mission — to partner alongside students, parents, and teachers alike to live out the goodness of the Gospel in our everyday lives.

  • It doesn’t pay like other schools, but for the sake of your mental health this school is 1000% worth it! I always feel fulfilled in what I do and built up by the staff.

  • Each year I remain at FR I continue to grow in my fulfillment. Nothing is ever perfect, however, our school does not work to maintain the status quo. Rather we are encouraged to try new things and dare to be at the “brink of failure” in the hopes of something wonderful coming out on the other side. We thrive because we are allowed to dream big and supported in our efforts.

  • I love my job, my classroom, the subject matter I teach. I could make a lot more money somewhere else, but nothing would compare with my experience at FRCS.

  • Great fulfillment is found within the individual classroom curriculum opportunities. The relationships between the entire staff are laced with Spirit-filled love, humility, grace, encouragement, and interest in both personal and professional development. The parents go above and beyond to support and bless the entire school community.

Also important to Front Range Christian School, it’s part of our mission, after all, is how well we are preparing students for life. 95% of our teachers feel that we are doing just this.

  • I have seen my own kids flourish in this environment as well as countless other kids over the past 15 years. I do believe kids receive a very well-rounded education academically as well as spiritually and socially with many opportunities outside the classroom to shape who they are as they grow up.

  • One of my favorite parts of the Jr/Sr High side is our attentiveness to preparing students for life. Each of our departments is dedicated to building up students who understand and can participate in the world, while standing strong in their faith; lead with compassion and love, while not compromising their values. There is not just one class that does this but a team of educators all standing together, modeling for the students.

And finally, we asked teachers what their favorite thing about working for FRCS is:

  • The mission of the school is actively lived out across the teachers and staff. People really do care and really do work hard to provide a real, God-centered, educational environment.

  • I love the community and encouragement that is found at our school because we all share a similar heart mission- to serve the Lord. I love that my co-workers are some of my best friends and that I can walk alongside each of them in our day to day life.

  • I love being able to invest in the lives of students every day and help them learn, grow in confidence and enjoy using their talents. I also love sharing school now with my own kids and see others pour into them just as I have done for many students over the past 15 years.

  • I feel like many of the staff are authentic. They have an authentic faith and walk with others. This is beautiful.

  • My favorite part of FRCS is the community. I have met my best friends, built strong relationships with my colleagues and felt known and loved by the families here.

  • The community and the fact that I am loved and accepted in all of my messiness.

  • The community and homey feel!

  • I love the people most of all!

  • Am I limited to just one favorite thing? The fun that the curriculum affords, the depth of staff relationships, and the Spirit-filled atmosphere encountered each day as I walk through the doors are my favorite things.
